If you are new to trying to conceive or recently began looking fertility questions up on the internet, you likely have been seeing dozens of letter abbreviations and have NO clue what they all mean. It can make you feel like even more of an outsider when trying to get pregnant and not having any idea what all of these women are talking about! TTC Lingo Explained:
TTC – Trying to Conceive
TWW – Two Week Wait (the window of time between conception and taking a home pregnancy test)
DPO – Days Past Ovulation
CD – Cycle Day
BD – Baby Dance (or in other words – have sex with your partner)
BMS – Baby Making Sex
OPK – Ovulation Prediction Kit
OPT – Ovulation Prediction Test (used to measure the LH in your urine to predict ovulation)
HPT – Home Pregnancy Test
FMU – First Morning Urine
BFN – Big Fat Negative
BFP – Big Fat Positive
BBT – Basal Body Temperature (Your body temperature as soon as you wake up in the morning. Used for ovulation prediction)
POAS or POS – Pee on a stick
LE – Line Eyes (when you look at an OPK or pregnancy test and think you see a line but aren’t sure).
VFL – Very Faint Line
VVVFL – Very, Very, Faint Line (like if I squint my eyes and up the contrast on the picture, I can see the line).
LH – Luteinizing Hormone (The hormone OPKs detect to signal ovulation)
HCG – Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (the hormone HPT’s detect to signal pregnancy)
HSG – Hysterosalpingogram (a test that can detect blocked fallopian tubes)
CM – Cervical Mucus
DH – Dear Husband
DD – Dear Daughter
DS – Dear Son
BW – Blood Work
EPT – Early Pregnancy Test
OTC – Over The Counter
BCP – Birth Control Pill
EDD – Estimated Due Date
FP – Follicular Phase
LP – Luteal Phase
TMI – Too Much Information
SB – Still Birth
EWCM – Egg White Cervical Mucous (signals fertility window/ovulation time)
AF – Aunt Flow
RE – Reproductive Endocrinologist
AI – Artificial Insemination
IUI – Intrauterine Insemination
IVF – In Vitro Fertilization
SS – Sperm Sample
MT – Male Testing
LMP – Last Menstrual Period
US – Ultrasound
MC – Miscarriage
IF – Infertility
PUPO – Pregnant Until Proven Otherwise
PG – Pregnant
TW – Trigger Warning (you will often see this on discussion board or on Facebook groups)
FX – Fingers Crossed
FET – Frozen Embryo Transfer
